Catie and Drennan Hicks are the new owners of The Trail House as of early March. For over 35 years, Drennan’s parents Gerry and Clyde Hicks have been the owners of The Trail House but are transitioning over the business so they can retire. Catie and Drennan both had corporate jobs in the Washington, DC area but have a love for all things outdoors so becoming the owners of The Trail House has been an exciting change for them. After planning to start the transition of the Trail House over the last few years, Catie and Drennan never would have anticipated what the first few weeks of business would be like, but are appreciating all the support from Clyde and Gerry, the Trail House Staff, and Frederick Community during the transition. The COVID-19 pandemic hit the Frederick area and they were forced to shut down after being in the store for only one week. One of the things the shutdown taught them was to become innovative with the business and start reaching customers in a new way. Drennan got the Trail House online shop up and running so that customers could still shop local without leaving their homes and the whole Hicks Family started helping with local deliveries while the doors were locked.
