About the Delaplaine

The Delaplaine Arts Center provides the Frederick region with educational opportunities and experiences in the visual arts through classes, exhibitions, and programs. Established in 1986, the Delaplaine is a dynamic nonprofit art education facility where visitors can view more than 50 exhibitions, participate in more than 200 classes and workshops, and experience dozens of engaging programs each year, reflecting our vision that “everyone deserves art.” The Delaplaine is located in historic downtown Frederick, Maryland, adjacent to Carroll Creek Park.

 

About the Position

This full-time, salaried position works Tuesdays through Saturdays for most of the year, and Mondays through Fridays during summer camps. Some scheduling flexibility is required. The position reports to the Director of Programs.

 

Overview of Responsibilities

The position is responsible for managing the Delaplaine’s instruction programs, including classes and workshops for adults, teens, and kids throughout the year and summer camps for kids and teens.

  • Performs administrative duties for educational programming including, but not limited to, processing and registrations and corresponding payments; working with instructors to develop quarterly instruction schedule; communicating with instructors and students; ordering, inventorying, and distributing supplies; and ensuring classrooms are clean, setup, and ready for classes.
  • Maintains familiarity with the Delaplaine’s Instruction Policy and Instruction Procedures, ensures that the latter is kept up to date.
  • Works with instructors and the Director of Programs to experiment with format and subject of educational programming, in an effort to increase enrollment and student satisfaction.
  • Works with the Exhibitions Manager and Director of Programs to incorporate exhibitions into educational programming.
  • Plans and implements special education programs such as Creative Outlet, Helen Smith Free Workshops for Kids, Art Cart and Delaplaine at Home videos, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment inventory and coordinating the necessary maintenance and repairs.
  • Supplies promotional information on educational programming for the Delaplaine’s marketing efforts (magazine, web, social media, etc.) to the Director of Development & Communications.
  • Administrates educational programming for outreach partners as directed.
  • Teaches classes as assigned by the Director of Programs.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in visual arts education or a related field
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently and keep track of numerous projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of a variety of visual arts media
  • Experience working with a database
  • Self-starter with effective problem-solving, flexibility, and sense of humor
  • Strong collaboration skills

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and teaching experience in visual arts principles, practices, and techniques for a wide range of audiences
  • Experience working with diverse audiences
  • Experience supervising volunteers

 

Starting Salary

$42,000, plus medical benefits (after three months) and parking stipend
