The artist’s studio is often considered a sacred space where magic happens. During this hour, four of our artists will be talking from their studios about their latest work and will introduce us to what inspires them as they create.
Judith Kornett and Julia Schrecengost found a much needed connection during the past year. Judith, a former art teacher in the public school system, and Julia, one of the newest NOMA artists, paired up during the pandemic and created a new exciting mentor/mentee relationship. The two women will be discussing how they have benefitted from working together in Judith’s studio.
Gary Schlappal will talk about his current philosophical/artistic direction. “I am intrigued with the concept of harnessing the SUPER POWER of creativity. Every day I work to focus on and learn from my original language, my art and my Self in this life.”
Thomas Sterner is currently working on a commission for a stainless steel kinetic wind sculpture for Carroll Creek to be installed in April. He will be discussing and demonstrating some of the processes he is using to make this sculpture including the use of the plannishing hammer, the English wheel and making polycarbonate dragonfly wings.
