“Reflections on Nature” @ Eastside Artists’ Gallery

A shared show with Mary Waldhorn, Margaret Polcawich, and Lisa Sheirer

Showing weekends Mar 5 – 27

Mary Waldhorn is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Art. In her long journey through the art world, she has taught art for over 45 years in museum and school settings, she has managed and worked in galleries, been an art curator and she has also tried her hand at framing art. As her children left the nest she worked more seriously on making her own art. Her preference is oil painting where she enjoys painting her birds with an Asian flair on gold backgrounds. She most enjoys using her imagination and painting the ideas that come from it. Her “Water Reflections” series started as spontaneous photo taking during her pandemic walks. Having received praise from folks who viewed the photos, she decided to print some as a collection on metal, which became the scope of her work for this March exhibit.

Margaret Polcawich is a mixed media artist living in Derwood, Maryland. She has a BFA with a focus in Sculpture from Carnegie Mellon University, has studied botanical illustration, been a Master Gardener, furniture maker, and an avid runner for 30 years. Margaret’s work demonstrates a reverence for the processes of the natural world. Organic patterns, shapes, and movements are explored with visual language and form through vessels, wall art and wearable art. She utilizes the unique properties of a variety of materials including polymer clay, wood, copper, pewter, wire, and paint.

Lisa Sheirer is a retired art and design professor living in Frederick, Maryland. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking from West Virginia University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from The University of Notre Dame. Ms. Sheirer has been creating artwork for over 40 years. Although Lisa is primarily known as a printmaker, she works in a variety of mediums. Pixels, clay, wood, glass, found objects, and iron casting are among the different materials she uses. Her current series “Stratum” are land and flowerscapes painted on paper.
