The mother-daughter duo of Arden McElroy and Jill Hossler have teamed up once again. They are our featured artists for the month of April with their show titled “What A Wonderful World.” Both artists draw inspiration from nature for their work, particularly landscapes and seascapes, from places they’ve visited or dreamed about. Arden has always been a “creative” and began painting a little over 10 years ago, after retiring from a 39-year teaching career. Come join us as we decorate flower pots for local nursing homes and care facilities! All are welcome to stop by and pot the flowers, color and decorate the pots, and then either take the flowers with them or leave them with the church for donation. No cost – just bring your green thumb!

We will be using Colorful Royal Icings, Edible Toppers, Sprinkles + Candy to decorate 2 Intricate Easter Cookie Designs + 3 DIY Easter Egg Shaped Cookies! Fun for ALL AGES!

We are so pleased to present local painter Meg Farr as our featured artist for April! We love Meg’s elegant botanical art, and we know you will too! Swing by the shop on First Saturday, April 1, from 2-4 pm to join us for an interactive art demo with Meg! Meg will have her paints and brushes on hand and will be ready to guide you through the basics of botanical painting! This event is free and informal; feel free to stop in and observe, or try your hand at painting!

Join historian Jake Wynn on a guided walking tour of Downtown Frederick on Saturday, April 1 at 2:00 PM focused on Frederick’s role as “One Vast Hospital” during the Maryland Campaign of 1862. Tickets are $15 and include admission to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. Tickets are free for Museum members, but you must still reserve your spot. Reservations will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

Join Friends of the Child Advocacy Center at the Healing Garden in Bonita Maas Park for face painting, glitter tattoos, bubbles, corn hole, music and reading with Heiress at 4:30pm. There will also be kid-friendly snacks and drinks.

Frederick Artists Night is an event that celebrates local (Frederick County) creativity with an art exhibit and reception and live music on the First Saturday of each month. The event is sponsored by the Cowork Frederick Foundation. All proceeds from art sales to go the artist.

“The System” is a completely unique art experience. The installation features a multi-wall video display that will take the viewer “inside the machine”. The animated display features drawn and animated  imagery with a mechanical soundscape that will use five projectors and three walls to surround the viewer and create an experience outside of reality. Julie Maynard has installed a group of collaged figures, all life-size. They range from humans standing nearly six feet tall down to a one-inch beetle. These creatures—the hawk soaring overhead, the coyote that may be stalking the deer—are aware of each other. “They are watching us, while intent on unspooling their own stories,” Maynard says. “I hope viewers will become a part of this conversation.” Maynard’s work in her show, Life Size, is a form of painting with paper, using bits of colors and text to build up layers that suggest the slow accumulation of time. With the weather warming up, weekend walking tours are back at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. The Museum will offer walking tours every Saturday and Sunday from April – September. Get tickets for our One Vast Hospital Tour which features historic downtown buildings and the role they played in treating 8,000 wounded soldiers after the Battle of Antietam. The tour is offered every Saturday at 10:30AM and Sunday at 2:00 PM beginning on April 1.
