DISTRICT Arts, a contemporary art gallery located in Downtown Frederick, in conjunction with The Frederick Community College Visual Arts Program, is pleased to present Paintings from the Watercolor Studio Class taught by Ms. Behnaz Ghorbani.  Works will include, Landscape, Portrait and Still-life. An opening reception with the artists will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 5 – 7pm. Photography Workshop with Wing Young Huie

Join us for a workshop with the award-winning artist Wing Young Huie Huie has won numerous fellowships, grants and awards including the McKnight Foundation Distinguished Artist Award. Wing Young-Huie is well-known for innovative photography projects which engage the community. This interactive workshop will include an activity wherein participants engage with each other around open-ended prompts such as: “What is something no one would know just by looking at you?” Bring your camera or i-phone for taking photos. TAG/The Artists Gallery is on the move! The group is in the process of securing a new space to display the work of its 21 full and associate members. TAG will celebrate its 30th anniversary in October. The artists-owned gallery has been at 216 N Market St since 2014. Hip Hop Lecture Series – The Movement: Where It All Started

Join us for the first installment of this spring series sponsored by Frederick Community College, Frederick County Public Libraries, and the Delaplaine! Shemica Sheppard will facilitate a discussion of the history of the art, music, and culture that was developed in the Bronx, New York City, during the 1970s as an underground movement by African and Latino Americans, and how it led hip hop to become some of the most influential music in the world today. The session will feature artworks by Peter Arizmendi, Devon Mathis, and Taurean Washington. FREE ADMISSION

Featuring company members, teaching artists, and more, MET presents Ghostlight Melodies: an Online Cabaret of Hope! 18 MET-affiliated artists will present songs from artists ranging across many genres, promoting hope and illumination in the state of our world today. Ghostlight Melodies will premiere on MET’s Facebook page on Saturday, April 18 at 7pm. The cabaret is free for all to attend, though viewers are encouraged to donate to MET to support our operations as a mask-making facility, and in preparation for reopening.
