Cross Quarter Gong Meditation

November Events

A gong meditation honoring the mid-point between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice. November 7th is the actual 2020 mid-point between these cycles. Many older traditions, especially Celtic, celebrated the cross quarters as the true beginning/shifting points of a season. So this cross-quarter is when we start moving into the winter cycle that culminates with the Winter Solstice and the return of light. To register: www.thecenterfrederick.com

The Road to Hamburg

November Events

Hamburg was a major hub of worldwide trade in the early 18th century. It’s interesting to note that Telemann was offered the position of Kantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig in 1723 (The same position Bach accepted that year—he was choice number three) but declined when […]

The Literacy Council of Frederick County is again partnering with Curious Iguana for our Annual Holiday Book Drive to provide new and gently used books for elementary school aged children (PreK through 5th grade). While the Literacy Council serves adult literacy needs, providing appealing, age-appropriate books to children fosters literacy at a young age and helps to break the cycle of low literacy in families.
